Paper Shaping And Record Breaking

Last weekend’s Papershapers opening at Scion’s Culver City Gallery was the biggest yet. A total of 1,155 people came through to witness an array of exciting paper art in many forms. Tables were set up, furnished with scissors and glue sticks as attendees were given the winning entry from the Giant Robot contest (www.giantrobotshin.com) – a Shin Tanaka template customized by Matt Hawkins – to assemble. Shin Tanaka himself was on-hand, making a rare US appearance, as were many of the other artists. Ryohei Tanaka wowed the crowds with his live scissor-ing skills – creating paper art on the spot.
